Family members of Hassan Kamara have expressed growing concern over his safety and whereabouts as the Sierra Leone Police continue efforts to locate individuals linked to the July 17, 2020 unrest in Makeni.
According to relatives, Hassan — originally from Musaia Chiefdom in Koinadugu District, Sierra Leone — relocated to Makeni following difficult childhood circumstances. After losing his father at a young age, he reportedly worked as a commercial motorbike rider in the city to support himself.

Family members say they have not heard from him for years and fear for his safety amid reports that police are still searching for individuals allegedly connected to the Makeni Generator protests. The demonstrations erupted after authorities announced plans to dismantle the Makeni thermal power plant — a move that triggered widespread youth unrest.
Witness accounts indicate Hassan was among those present during the protests and was injured during clashes with security forces after allegedly throwing stones at police personnel. He was reportedly taken away from the scene by other youths.

The Sierra Leone Police later declared him wanted in connection with the disturbances. Unconfirmed information suggests he may have left the country between August 18 and 28, 2020, although his exact location remains unknown.
Relatives say the continuing police search has heightened their fears, urging anyone with credible information about his whereabouts to come forward. They also appealed to authorities to ensure respect for due process and human rights in handling cases linked to the Makeni unrest.
Meanwhile, several human rights organisations have criticised alleged mistreatment of some individuals connected to the protests, calling for accountability, transparency, and adherence to lawful procedures.
