Joint Press Statement on the Official Visit of the Inspector General of Police of the Liberia National Police to Sierra Leone
The Sierra Leone Police (SLP), is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the official visit of the Inspector General of Police of the Liberia National Police, Honourable Gen. Robert Coleman, to Sierra Leone from 17–21 November 2025. The visit was undertaken at the invitation of the Inspector General of Police of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Mr. William Faya Sellu, as part of ongoing regional efforts to deepen bilateral cooperation, enhance cross-border security collaboration, and strengthen institutional ties between the two police services.
During the visit, Honourable Gen. Robert Coleman and his delegation held a series of high-level engagements with senior government and security stakeholders, including Hon. Ndadia Aichie, members of the Police Council, the Co-Chief of Police, the Vice-Chairperson of the Police Council, the Minister of Economic Affairs, and the Executive Management Board of the Sierra Leone Police.
Discussions focused on key areas of mutual interest, including:
Cross-border criminality and intelligence sharing
Joint training and capacity-building programmes
Community policing best practices
Cybersecurity
Human trafficking and drug trafficking
Development of a draft national policing cooperation framework
Both institution expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of the bilateral engagements and agreed to establish a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), to guide future cooperation.
The Sierra Leone Police expressed sincere appreciation to IGP Honourable Gen. Robert Coleman and his delegation for their visit and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration aimed at promoting peace, stability, and professional policing across the Mano River region.
Joint Commitments; Recognising the importance of mutual cooperation for enhancing peace and stability between the two sister republics, both police institutions reaffirm their commitment to the following:
1. Promotion of Peace and Stability
Both sides remain committed to maintaining peace, security, and stability in the Mano River region. They agreed to pursue peaceful resolution of misunderstandings through legal and diplomatic channels, without provocation or the use of force, in accordance with national and international law.
2. Strengthening Institutional Capacity
The two institutions underscored the need to strengthen police capacity through joint training exchanges aimed at promoting professional, accountable, and modern policing.
3. Addressing Cross-Border Criminality
The parties expressed concern over the rise in human trafficking, drug trafficking, and other organized cross-border crimes, acknowledging their significant impact on regional peace and security.
4. Enhanced Intelligence and Information Sharing
Both sides emphasized the urgency of improving intelligence collaboration and information sharing to better address emerging security threats.
5. Securing Shared Borders
They reaffirmed their commitment to closer coordination in securing shared borders, reducing human and drug trafficking, and limiting the proliferation of small arms and light weapons.
6. Strengthening Police Cooperation
The two institutions renewed their resolve to work collaboratively in protecting citizens, promoting community safety, and ensuring that policing remains effective, resilient, and people
centered.
